Manager (Research & Development)

The Hong Kong Investment Corporation Limited (“HKIC”) is dedicated to contributing to the future development of Hong Kong by identifying investment opportunities and strategically promoting the development of target industries, so as to enhance the long-term competitiveness and economic vitality of Hong Kong while generating investment return. It is wholly owned by the HKSAR Government, and consolidates the management of the investment activities of the Hong Kong Growth Portfolio, Greater Bay Area Investment Fund, Strategic Tech Fund, and the Co-Investment Fund. Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and analyse macroeconomic and industry trends to identify forward-looking risks and opportunities, and to generate actionable insights that inform the HKIC’s investment strategy and ecosystem development work.
- Conduct in-depth analysis on specific high-growth and emerging sectors, industry cycles, competitive landscapes, and disruptive technologies, and evaluate their implications for Hong Kong’s ecosystems and strategic positioning
- Support the Head (Research & Development) in stakeholder engagement, including government bodies, external research and policy institutions, industry associations, think tanks, as well as potential partners, ensuring alignment with the HKIC’s mandate
- Represent the HKIC in working groups, forums, and consultations relevant to industry and policy development
- Maintain knowledge repositories on industry trends, policy developments and investment insights for internal use, providing the relevant departments of the HKIC with foundational research that underpins due diligence and investment thesis development
- Perform other assigned duties as required
Requirements
- University degree or advanced degree with good academic results in Economics, Public Policy, Finance or fields related to Hard and Core Technology, Biotechnology, New Energy/Green Technology
- Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience, preferably combining roles in economic research (e.g. as an economist in a commercial entity, government or other institutions) and strategic analysis (e.g. in-house corporate strategy or policy research)
- Good understanding of the Basic Law of the HKSAR
- Committed to contributing to the future development of Hong Kong and achieving the HKIC’s objectives
- Strong sense of integrity and professional ethics
- Demonstrated ability to integrate economic analysis with strategic investment considerations, strong knowledge of the global financial landscape preferred
- Good command of written and spoken Putonghua and English, Cantonese is a plus
Remuneration Package
A competitive remuneration package will be offered to the successful candidates, taking into account the relevant depth and breadth of experience and qualifications. Fringe benefits include medical and dental benefits and paid annual leave.
